There are those would would put the rubber-bumper MGB down, but in fact it is a very good car. It may have lost a little of the sharpness of its youth, but who amongst us has not? And, if you are enjoying your golden years, you might just find the car’s raised ride height makes ingress and egress a little easier.
This 1980 MGB Roadster has had just two owners from new and has only covered 38,125 miles in its 38 years to date. It was originally supplied to a consultant doctor in Cardiff who was to keep it for 17 years. There is a stamped service history showing the car had covered 34,824 miles by the time he parted with it in May 1997, and the history file also contains a collection of invoices and 18 past MOTs all of which support the low mileage.
The vendor has owned the car for the last 21 years and looked after it well, being more polished than driven. In fact, over the last 12 years it has only done 824 miles – mostly to the MOT station and back. It was rolling road tuned in May of this year at Nutts, South Wales, who also fitted a new brake master cylinder and braided steel brake hoses, correcting the tracking at the same time. It then flew through its MOT with no advisories recorded.
This MGB looks splendid in its Blaze Orange paintwork and the Minilite-style wheels¬ – probably the only non-standard items on the car – are an attractive addition. This is a car that has really been cared for and the interior and the hood are as good as the rest of it. It will be equally at home in the show arena as it is on the open road.
