Anyone looking to set up a retro haulage business would do well to consider buying this1924 Ford Model T van and the TT truck also for sale in this auction. Offering a “just in time” service might be little optimistic, though.
Like the truck, this Ford is also a home-grown product from the Trafford Park plant in Manchester. Unlike the truck, however, this van is based on the car chassis and has the conventional T back axle. This would give the van a theoretical top speed of 45mph but the increased frontal area might put the kibosh on that (though downhill with a prevailing wind should be fun).
SV 4110 was restored almost 20 years ago and won its class in the Historic Commercial vehicle London to Brighton run in 2001. It has not seen much use in recent years but it is a runner and should not require much attention to get it back into circulation.
The van has its original “shower of sparks” trembler coil ignition and is also blessed with a starter motor to make life a little easier. While the overall condition of the van is super, there is room for improvement, although it would be a shame to spoil the nicely mellowed feel . However, it would not take much to make the van shine again and it would be an ideal promotional vehicle.
The van comes with a V5C, photographs of the restoration, seven past MOTs, and some tax discs.
