From a private collection, this Limited Edition Mini 30 is one of a pair bought by brother and sister Mick Evans and Gillian Tomlinson from Wright’s Garage in Sleaford, Lincs, in 1989.
Mick was a garage proprietor (The Black Bull Garage, Sleaford) and a big car collector. The two cars went into his collection where they sat for the next 27 years, never seeing the road. The 16 miles shown on this car’s speedometer is genuine. There is a copy of the local newspaper, The Sleaford Citizen, which accompanies the car and tells the story.
The Mini 30 was produced – as you might imagine – to celebrate the car’s 30th anniversary. Only 3,000 were made, based on the 998cc Mini Mayfair, with 1,000 in black and the rest in Cherry Red, as here. Detail touches included chrome bumpers and grille, piped half-leather upholstery, Minilite-style alloy wheels, and an abundance of anniversary logos.
With just three keepers to date, F420 RFW is a car for the serious Mini collector and one that could be shown alongside the equally impressive Mini 25 which is offered elsewhere in this auction. The car is in 'as-new' condition and is totally original. Clearly well-conserved, it is a real museum-quality gem and also comes with a V5C, recent bill of sale, old style V5 and correspondence from the original keeper.
