Not quite French Racing Blue, but then this 2CV is not quite a French racing car. It is, however, a hoot to drive and a thoroughly practical form of transport: top hats... basket of eggs... ploughed fields... yadda, yadda.
You may have heard it all before, but the fact remains that the 2CV is still an economical old motor (70mpg), inordinately capacious, and with its front wheel-drive and long-travel suspension can boldly go places other cars cannot.
They are also infinitely re-buildable – if you have the right ‘ammeurs and spanneurs’ that is. This one had a prang in 2003 (Category C) and another in 2012 (Category D) but on both occasions it was restored to rude health and passed fit for purpose by the man from the Ministry.
The car had around £3,000 spent on it in 2012, including a respray, and the current owner spent £1,200 on it last year to keep it up to scratch (king-pins, exhaust, seat belts, brakes etc). The mileage shown is 69,115 which is perhaps not the first time those figures have appeared on the speedo or necessarily in that order, but the air-cooled engine does have a reputation for durability and is easy enough to overhaul.
The car passed its last MOT in October 2018, following which a number of the advisories listed were attended to (many invoices on file). The vendor has enjoyed ownership of this 2CV but now wishes to sell it in order to spend more time with his salami (he owns a deli in Shropshire) and the money from the sale will help him to make both ends meet.
