This 1954 Ford Zephyr Zodiac spent the first 64 years of its life in Australia, being ‘re-imported’ into the UK and registered here in June 2018.
It is believed to be one of a number of cars built from CKD kits in New Zealand in the early ‘50s. For those of you who like to do your own research, its Australian registration number was SA491-760.
The car – now registered as 407 XVB – has 65,509 miles showing on the clock, but there is no proof that this is the only mileage it has covered. The car is in incredibly sound condition, however, with a very tidy and original interior. It has had a complete respray and plenty of other cosmetic work but it still has an amazingly authentic appearance. (The supplementary rear indicators can easily be removed.)
The mechanical side of the car has been checked, including the brakes and everything is believed to be in good running order. The car completed the Beamish Reliability Run in 2018 (150 miles through Durham and North Yorkshire) so it must be pretty bonzer. The car does not have (or need) a current MOT but is expected to have one in time for the auction.
This ’54 Ford is a solid unassuming car with bullet-proof mechanicals and traditional Ford simplicity. It combines a touch of rarity value with good practical family classic appeal. Just the thing to tow your classic caravan perhaps?
