There is something appealingly upright and honest about this bluff little Austin 7 Opal two-seat tourer. The paintwork is little tired maybe and has been touched up in places, but it looks original and the car exudes an air of authenticity.
The hood and seats are in good condition and it has had 5 new Dunlop tyres and tubes recently. The carpets are a little worn, but that can easily be rectified. The vendor tells us that the car runs and drives as one would expect of a mid-'30s Seven and is fitted with LED bulbs all round. It is only offered for sale as he just doesn’t have the time to use it and does not want it to deteriorate. Wise man.
The vendor has owned the car since March 2014 and there is little history to accompany it. There is a buff logbook showing ownership from 1950, when it lived in Dorset, to 1978, but little else. There are 97,020 miles recorded on the speedo and it may well be that this is a correct figure - Austin 7s are robust little things but it is unlikely to have covered 197,000 miles, is it?
This is an ideal car for those wanting to experience pre-war motoring and should also appeal to those who missed out on the Austin 7 Opal at our last auction so get those bidding arms ready.
