£65,000 restoration? That’s not even half the story. There is so much to this 1960 Twin Cam MGA that we don’t have room to list it all. It is on file, though. It does run to several pages - and then there’s the memory stick.
The car has been on a dyno and the engine produces in excess of 180bhp, which makes it good for 135mph with the current gearing and 0-60mph in around 6 seconds. Best of all, the owner says it still does 25mpg, is road legal, has a V5C and should even pass an MOT!
The car was raced in America and then brought back and raced in this country. It has been professionally restored at a cost of £65,000.
The engine is now 1,900cc and runs on twin 45 DCOE Webers, has big valve heads, up-rated forged pistons, steel rods, uprated oil pump, steel flywheel, competition clutch, high torque starter motor and electronic ignition. There’s a close-ratio five-speed gearbox, heavy-duty propshaft, Quaife LSD, and competition half-shafts.
The wheels are Twin-Cam Dunlop knock-ons fitted with new tyres. The brakes are discs all-round with alloy twin-pot calipers and the suspension has been lowered and there are adjustable telescopic dampers front and rear.
The interior is fitted with alloy panels, including transmission tunnel and floor; there is a removable roll bar, full-width windscreen, Ridgard seats, harnesses and even tonneau covers for road and race use.
That’s just scratched the surface. If you want to know more come and look at the car, look at the list of specifications, admire the workmanship.
The MGA is a beautiful car in standard form; this one is an absolute rocket ship but…it’s still usable on the road. What more could you want? Race the car on Sunday, drive to work on Monday.
