Launched in 1957 the XK150 was a radical revision to the famous XK120 and XK140 models. Most visibly, a one-piece windscreen replaced the split screen and a combination of higher wing line and widened bonnet gave a more streamlined, aesthetically pleasingand contemporary appearance.

The iconic 3.4-litre XK DOHC six-cylinder engine was further improved with a new cylinder head and carburettor configuration which eventually culminated in the impressive ‘S’ specification which boasted a straight port design with triple SU carburettors. With 250bhp on tap, the 3.4-litre XK150 S recorded the fastest performance of any closed car that the Motor magazine had subjected to a full road test at the time, achieving a top speed of 132 mph and acceleration from 0–60 mph in 7.8 seconds.

Production of the XK150 ended in October 1960 making way for its successor, the E type, which was launched in March 1961.

The car offered is a rare 3.4-litre S FHC of which only 199 were built. Finished with cream paintwork and red leather interior, the car was first registered on 1st January 1961 making it among the last XK150 S’ to leave the production line.

The current registered keeper is the third generation of the same family to own the car, the family acquiring it in 1964 from its original owner. With minimal use throughout its life, the car has covered a mere 19,500 miles from new. The buff log book remains with the car along with MOTs and service bills which support this remarkable history and mileage.

Incredibly, but unsurprisingly, the glove box still contains all of the original Jaguar documentation including Jaguar dealer directory, Jaguar drivers club prospectus, XK150 factory service chart, XK150 operating, maintenance and service handbook and even the radio instruction manual.

The history records that it has resided in rural Suffolk for most of its life, with service bills and recommissioning work showing that it was driven until the early 1970s before being retired from regular use. The MOT history indicates that it was used again from 2014 until the present day with the most recent MOT being issued in May 2019.

This XK150 S was subject to two periods of recommissioning in the last five years. In 2014 extensive maintenance work was carried out including replacement brake callipers, master cylinder, all discs and pads along with clutch master and slave cylinders, hand brake cables, steering rack mountings and various engine hoses.

The car covered fewer than 200 miles during the next four years and was subject to the second recommissioning in 2018/2019. This work concentrated on the exterior of the car and included the re-chroming and polishing of the original bright work, restoration of the paintwork including bare metal preparation of the front sections, bonnet, roof and doors and replacement of the exhaust system. The underside of the car was treated and sealed and new MWS stainless steel 72-spoke wire wheels fitted, the originals remain with the car and will accompany it.

The end result is a truly beautiful car with a unique history of ownership and use. Can there be another example which has had as little use as this?

Extensively and most sympathetically recommissioned to fine running order, this is a rare opportunity to own one of Jaguars most exquisite sporting cars that has yet to reach 20,000 miles of use.
