A rare treat, we’d usually say you’re unlikely to see another, but here we have two in the same sale. One a factory cabriolet, and this, a popular retro-conversion.
Comprehensively restored over the last six months by a local retired friend of the vendor, this 1986 MkV Mini looks fantastic and so it should, with a rumoured £6,500 spent on the bodywork and paintjob alone.
Although there are no invoices, the vendor kindly had the details of what has been done put to paper and it included a new bonnet, two new front wings, both door skins, rear valance and corner pieces, boot floor and rear sections along with new headlights, indicators and fog light.
The body was stripped to bare metal and resprayed in 2k Ford Radiant Red with inner and underside waxoiled for protection. A quick look around the car readily confirms this.
A look inside this smart 1,275cc Mini shows it to have a new black leather interior piped red, walnut dash. The stereo was missing at the time of our visit, but the vendor will include this and a set of speakers in the boot for the lucky new owner. The car sits on new tyres, with new callipers fitted to the front and also has a new hood which hasn’t yet been fitted but is in the boot along with a useful tonneau cover.
The history file is sparse but includes the V5C, current MOT running until October 2019 with no advisories showing just 60,238 miles and a list of what was done in the restoration. Not one for the purist perhaps, but does that matter? It’s been restored both beautifully and skilfully and is ready to be enjoyed this summer.
AMENDMENT; The registration number is C956 GYC not G956 GYC as in the printed catalogue
