The Mk2 Jaguar market has been over-heated for a long time and there are some hugely-over-priced and over-rated cars out there. Caveat emptor, indeed. This Daimler V8, by comparison, is an absolute bargain at the estimate quoted.
True, it does not have the XK engine, but it does have Edward Turner’s glorious 2.5-litre V8 – recognised now as a much under-rated engine. You get all the styling of the Mk2, and, in this car, you get a shade of red rarely seen on a Jaguar. The paint is not perfect but it’s been on there a while and it does give the car an air of authenticity missing from many of those over-restored investment vehicles.
There is little paperwork to accompany this car but we do know that it had an engine rebuild by Board Brothers Ltd, of Clapham, at a cost of £2,083 (new pistons, crank re-grind etc) and a brake service (including new calipers) in January 2019.
The car currently shows 71,958 recorded miles although this cannot be verified as accurate. It has had very little use over the last seven years and seems to have only been driven to the MOT station and back for most of that time. It had its last MOT in January 2018, when it passed with no advisories and only 44 miles have been added since then.
This is one for the owner who can appreciate the inherent engineering and quality, who likes to be a little different and who likes to drive his car not just look at it.
