Launched in 1938, the Ford Prefect changed remarkably little until 1953 when a much redesigned 100E model was introduced alongside the similar Ford Anglia. The old separate chassis had gone, replaced by integral construction, while coil independent front suspension supplanted the transverse leaf spring. Braking was by Girling hydraulic drums. The old side valve 1172 cc engine was retained, giving 71mph and 33mpg performance.

Inside there were separate front seats trimmed in PVC with leather as an option, and two circular instruments in front of the driver - one containing the speedometer and the other fuel and water temperature gauges. The gear change was floor mounted and the heater was an optional extra.

First registered in May 1959, this lovely little 100E has had just three previous owners and is said to have covered only 37,000 miles from new, having been stored in a dehumidified building for several years. The vendor states that the car has never been welded and that the paintwork, brightwork and interior are all in remarkable condition for a car of this age.

Still retaining its original steel sun visor, the car also benefits from a full stainless steel exhaust and retains its original registration number (with valuation certificate for £1,200). Also present are the original owner's handbook, 15 previous MOTs, various photos and service receipts, and copies of the original buff log book and old V5. Said to drive very well indeed, this is surely one of the finest, most unmolested examples you are likely to find anywhere.
