The DKR scooter was produced in Wolverhampton from 1957-1966. The “D” and the “R” were Barry Day and Noah Robinson from Willenhall Radiators, whilst the “K” was Cyril Kieft of racing car fame. The firm was quite successful for a while, before fashions changed and foreign competition really took hold.
The initial bikes, the Dove, Pegasus and Defiant were basic scooters using Villers 147, 148 and 197cc engines respectively. The range was modernised in 1961 with the launch of the Capella which came with 148, 174 or 197cc options, whilst a deluxe version could be purchased on the two larger machines.
First registered in September 1963, this Capella has been in the same ownership from new. Its engineer owner has extensively modified the machine, fitting a sidecar and apparently increasing the capacity to 250cc and adding an electric start with foot operated de-compressor. In light regular use until 1997, it has been in storage since. It comes with a V5 and the original buff log book.
