JAGUAR D-TYPE REPLICA Jaguar Cars achieved an amazing series of five outright victories at Le Mans between 1951 and 1957, the final three wins being with the legendary ?D? type sports racing car. As the value of genuine cars spiralled into the multi-million pound bracket, enthusiasts turned to a variety of replicas. Some of the these were excellent and some were dire and far from accurate! Built in the late 1980?s this replica D-type is an L R Roadsters RAM model and uses the Adrian Reynard designed tubular spaceframe with a full backbone, detachable diff-carrier and gearbox crossmember. Front lower wishbones, steering arms and rear tie-bars are fabricated, but the remaining suspension units are standard Jaguar items. The 3.8 litre engine used was from a donor 1964 Mark X saloon. This unit was rebuilt with a cast aluminium sump, balanced crankshaft and gas-flowered head. A new clutch and manual overdrive gearbox were installed. Finally the engine was equipped with three large S U Carburettors and a free flowing six-branch exhaust. Bodywork is formed in fibreglass and is based on the 1955 ?Longnose? ?D?-type with fin-tail and full width windscreen. The cockpit has space for driver and a passenger. The riveted aluminium construction of the original is accurately replicated, including a few small dents! All the fittings are in keeping with the spirit of the real car, including the aluminium steering wheel, instruments (with a 0-180 mph Speedo!) and expensive cast wheels. The interior is trimmed in leather and the carpets match the British Racing Green paint. This exciting Jaguar has electrifying performance, with a top speed approaching 150mph and acceleration to match, as would be expected when such a powerful engine is installed in so light a chassis. The Car is offered with a current MOT, photographic file relating to the build and invoices for work carried out. Altogether this is a very well constructed and accurate-looking replica of the magnificent d-type; certainly one of the very best of its type available, and immediately ready for some exciting and rapid motoring .
