Launched in 1997, the X308 version of the legendary Jaguar XJ Saloon was the finest four-door car that the Coventry firm had yet produced. Beautifully styled by Geoff Lawson and with a build quality to rival anything the Germans had to offer, it quickly became the best-selling luxury car in Britain.
Under the bonnet lay a magnificent V8 in either 3.2 or 4-litre capacity. However, for the really sporting driver a supercharged XJR model was also offered with sports suspension, better brakes and a mighty 370bhp and 387lb/ft of torque. Capable of hitting 60mph in just 5.2 seconds and electronically limited to 155mph, it could cross continents at high speed in luxury and style.
This particular XJR dates from 1998 and looks absolutely lovely in metallic red with a pale grey leather interior. It has covered some 97,000 miles to date but was fitted with a new engine under warranty by Hartwell Jaguar Bristol in 2004 at 34,835 miles (documents on file). It comes with a full service history comprising 13 stamps to date, all but two at Jaguar main agents, and was last serviced just a handful of miles ago. MOTd until April 2013, it is said to drive superbly.
If you have never experienced one of these magnificent machines you really don’t know what you are missing – everything about them is designed to make you feel good about driving and even, dare one say it, proud to be British.
Please note that the XJR number plate shown is not included in the sale and will be replaced by the number J11 JVF prior to the sale. The XJR number is available by separate negotiation if desired.
