History

1922 Ford Model ?T? Tourer Engine No 410089 The Ford Motor Company (England) was established in 1911, the factory in Trafford Park, Manchester being opened the same year, and the first British-built Ford leaving the assembly line on 23rd April. The first British Fords were, of course the famous Model ?T2, introduced in Detroit in October 1908, and ending production in 1927 after 15 million cars had left the assembly lines. This Model ?T? Tourer is believed to have been produced at Trafford Park and exported to Australia, where it was sold on 21st October 1922 by Duncan Motors Ltd of Franklin Street, Adelaide to a Mr N C Hollamby of Walkerville, and was given the registration number ?573?. Little is known of the history of the car until recent years, but the body is certainly unusual and probably an English product and right hand drive steering is fitted which would seem to confirm the story. The car was rebuilt in Australia and traveled back to the UK in 2001, where it was purchased by a British enthusiast. It then passed into the hands of the present owner, who has a collection of early cars and it has since had occasional use, including the task of ferrying Father Christmas on his Yule tide errands! The car has the normal eccentricities of a model ?T?, and has unconventional gears and controls, but the owner reports that it is easily mastered, and goes very well. The car is in sound and very respectable condition, and is ready to sue, being currently taxed and with and MOT certificate expiring in Nov 2005. Estimate ?8,500 - ?10,000
