The remarkable VW Beetle is famous for many reasons, its roots in Nazi Germany, the duration of its production, the vast numbers of cars produced and even its ability to climb up the outside of sky-scrapers as “Herbie”. Every one has its own story which is no doubt one of the appeals of this enchanting machine.
This much loved example was purchased by the vendor in 1986 from a lady in Hay-on-Wye. Treated to a comprehensive restoration at the time, it was repainted blue following a thorough chassis overhaul. Used by various family members over the years, it is now surplus to requirements and taking up valuable garage space.
Recently treated to new brake linings and wheel cylinders, a new hand brake cable, rear silencer and a new battery, this solid Beetle is ready for immediate use. A good history file includes 24 old MOTs which show that it has covered just 3,000 miles since 2002 when a fully reconditioned front axle was fitted.
Unfortunately the paint on the engine cover was vandalised a few years ago, the vendor quickly painting it to prevent the onset of rust. The vendor also advises that the original seats, which are in serviceable condition, can be collected from his home near Builth Wells should the new owner wish to replace the non-standard items currently fitted.
This solid and sound, well cared for Beetle would make the perfect starter classic. MOTd until September 2014 and tax exempt, a few simple cosmetic improvements would turn it into a very presentable example.
