Launched in 1968, the TR6 used Karmann consultants to sharpen up the looks of the outgoing TR5. Using the same centre section to keep down costs, the new car was to be the best selling TR yet, with 94,619 finding customers before it was replaced by the controversial TR7 in 1975.

Widely regarded as the last of the proper TRs, it was one of the last cars on the market to use a traditional chassis with separate body unit. Fitted with the 2.5-litre straight-six which initially produced 150bhp, the 1,130kg TR6 would reach 60mph in 8.2 seconds and top 120mph. Later cars with CR prefix chassis numbers were slightly de-tuned to produce 125bhp. This was still sufficient to deliver a maximum speed of 116mph, the 0-60mph dash taking a slightly more leisurely 9.5 seconds using a bit less fuel in the process. They all were fast, long-legged (27mph/1000rpm in overdrive top), sounded fabulous and had that lovely wooden dashboard, making the TR6 one of the most appealing traditional British sportscars.

This 1973 125bhp model is described by the vendor as being in sound and usable condition. The accompanying file shows various bills and invoices, the car having just passed its MOT which expires in February 2015. The vendor has recently fitted new front brake pads and overhauled the front brake calipers along with a new handbrake cable.

Shortly to join the ranks as a ‘Historic Vehicle’ in the eyes of the DVLA, it will become tax exempt from April of this year which will be an added bonus to its new owner.
