As referred to elsewhere in this catalogue, the iconic Issigonis Mini soldiered on until 2000, sales being kept alive by a steady flow of Limited Edition models to give it that extra bit of novelty in the market.
One of the more exclusive offerings was the Mini Equinox which was put on sale in April 1996 with a production run strictly limited to 750 examples and sold out almost immediately.
Based on the more luxurious Mini Sprite, it had a 1275cc engine and came in three colours, Ameranth, Charcoal Grey or Platinum Silver, all adorned with chrome bumpers, grille, wheelarch extensions and door mirrors, plus Equinox decals and coachlines drawing on an astrological theme. A glass sunroof, additional driving lamps and 10” Exacton alloy wheels completed the look.
The interior featured purple and black ‘moon-and-stars’ printed fabric seats with leather edging plus tinted glass, opening rear quarter windows, R660 radio cassette, 1275GT instruments and an alarm/immobiliser.
First registered in August 1996, this Charcoal Grey Equinox has had just one local lady owner from new and has covered 108,700 miles with no fewer than 17 services to date. Said to drive superbly with “no mechanical faults” it is MOTd until 25th June although the tax disc expired in April.
