Following the success of the Consul/Zephyr range of 1950, Ford applied the same engineering and styling principles to its new 100E range launched in 1953.

The two car range consisted of the two-door Anglia and the four-door Prefect, both versions being available in ‘standard’ and Deluxe versions. The 100E Prefect had a more up-market appearance than the lowly Anglia with chrome headlamp surrounds and a distinctive chrome grille. The door window surrounds were chrome finished and many Prefects carried two-tone paintwork.

Standard equipment included the 36bhp 1172cc sidevalve engine, three speed gearbox and vacuum wipers. The Prefect sold well and was eventually replaced by an OHV, 107E Prefect in 1959.

Purchased by the vendor in the 1990s from the Bournemouth area, this 1958 100E gave a trouble-free run back to West Wales and was then sparingly used at local shows and carnivals. It was then put into dry storage where it has lain ever since; with too many projects on the go, the vendor has decided that the car now deserves to go to someone who can put it to more use.

In remarkably sound condition, the vendor hopes to have it running again by the time of the sale and advises us that although it will need a light recommissioning before it can be used on the road, a tin of elbow grease would transform it into a nice, smart example.
