The BSA "C" range of bikes first appeared in 1938, the 250cc side-valve C10 being joined a year later by the OHV 250cc C11. Production resumed immediately post-war and a year after that the girder forks were replaced with telescopics.
From 1954 the OHV C11 became the C11G and gained plunger rear springing and alternator electrics. The C11G remained in this guise until superseded by the C12 which sported an up to date rear swing arm and more enveloping body work while still employing the C11G engine.
The V5 shows that this machine is declared manufactured in 1954, and has been updated with chrome mudguards and headlight, the engine code YC showing the engine to have come from an earlier 1949 rigid C11 and the frame number relating to a slightly later C12.
Well presented and with extremely good compression, the bike sounds 'sweet' and would make an ideal lightweight motorcycle for club runs.
