The W170-platform SLK230 Kompressor was introduced in 1997 to compete with the Porsche Boxster and BMW Z3.
Setting it apart was the ingenious folding electric hardtop, the balletic operation of which never ceases to delight onlookers. It wasn’t just about posing either – under the bonnet lurked a seriously pokey 2.3-litre supercharged four-cylinder engine that produced a meaty 193bhp. Allied to a five-speed automatic transmission, it endowed the car with a 0-60 time of just 7.2 seconds and a top speed of 149mph.
Sharing the same colour as the classic Silver Arrows Mercs of old, this lovely 2001 SLK has covered only 29,200 miles in its 13 years to date and is in exceptionally good condition as you might expect from such a low mileage example. Always properly maintained, it has four stamps in the service book, the last only 700 miles ago in October last year.
Fitted with all the toys that a Mercedes driver would expect (including the optional cruise control, so useful on those annoying average-speed-camera-monitored 50mph motorway sections that seem so prevalent today), it has just been fitted with a new battery, the air con has been regassed and it was fully waxoil treated in November last year to protect it from the winter salt.
MOTd until September and with a current tax disc, it is ready for immediate use and will make fine transport in the summer months ahead. These SLKs really are fantastic cars to drive and this low mileage stunner looks great value at the modest guide price suggested.
AMENDMENT: THIS CAR IS ON SORN AND IS NOT TAXED AS PREVIOUSLY STATED.
