Designed to appeal to the large USA marketplace, the T140W TSS was a 744cc Triumph-engined machine equipped with an 8-valve cylinder head designed by Westlake engineering.
The engine itself was developed from a 1970s design by Brian Jones, following the practice previously pioneered by the Rickman brothers with their own 8-valve offerings. The crank was developed to use bigger diameter journals producing a stiffer design that gave one of the smoothest running engines ever fitted to a Triumph. Valves were smaller and at a steeper angle with fuel fed by two Amal carburettors on home models and constant velocity Bing carburettors on export models.
The first TSS model was built for the North American market and was despatched on 27th October 1981, an example of this marque in the ‘Battle of the Twins’ race series ridden by Jon Minnono achieving remarkable success in 1981/82.
This particular TSS was first registered in August 19882 and is a matching engine and frame numbers machine. It is supplied with V5C, old MOT's to 2004 showing mileage of just 7,612 miles and further SORN documents to 2010. The current indicated mileage of under 8,000 miles is stated by the vendor to be correct and the documents provided seem to support this statement. Other than an occasional start-up, this machine has basically been unused since the last 2004 MOT, so a precautionary check over prior to use is recommended
