The Francis Barnett motorcycle firm was established in 1919 by Gordon Francis and Arthur Barnett, the former being the son of the owner of Lea Francis cars and motorcycles.
Originally offered as JAP engine models based on an earlier Invicta design, Francis Barnett developed their own "built like a bridge " frame for the 1923 model year as well as offering light-weights powered by Villiers 2 stroke engines.
The name Cruiser was first used for the enclosed, streamlined models produced from 1934 to 1940 and was then resurrected for the Villiers powered post-war machines produced between 1954 and 1956, subsequently passing on to the 250cc AMC and Villiers twin powered bikes made between 1957 and 1965.
The Cruiser offered here is a 1956 example of the Cruiser 75 powered by a Villiers 225cc 1H engine. First registered on 7/4/ 1956 it has been the subject of a restoration and is supplied with current V5C and spares and instruction books as well as MOT's from 2009 to 2011 when it was last used. A certain amount of checking over and recommissioning is advised prior to use.
