Launched in 1982, the Mercedes-Benz 190 was the most affordable model in the marque's history.

Over £600 million was spent researching and developing this car with Mercedes acutely aware that a failure of such an entry level model could easily bring down the rest of the range and the entire company’s reputation.

The 190 was available with airbags, ABS brakes, seatbelt tensioners and other advanced safety features and is now regarded as one of the finest Mercedes-Benz cars ever made. It was finally replaced by the much less impressive C-Class in 1993.

The previous owner of this delightful manual 190E 1.8-litre was a member of the Mercedes-Benz owners club and looked after it meticulously. The service book shows a total of 18 stamps, 14 of which are from Mercedes-Benz main agents. Fitted with an electric sunroof and upgraded Mercedes-Benz alloy wheels, its condition belies its 100,800 mile total.

Due to have a fresh MOT and six months’ tax before the sale, the vendor describes its black exterior as superb, whilst its cloth upholstery looks virtually unmarked. New tyres have recently been fitted all round and all the fluids have been changed. Everything is in working order as one would expect from a prime example of this Teutonic masterpiece. Virtually bullet-proof and surprisingly good to drive, these 190 models are sure-fire classics of the future, especially when in such superb condition as this.
