Fifth Avenue was an upmarket trim level and option package that Chrysler offered on its larger sedans from 1979 to 1993 and was named after one of New York’s most glamorous shopping streets.
Initially the Fifth Avenue was a very large saloon but from 1982-89 it was replaced by a medium-sized model, as here. All were luxuriously equipped with button leather seating, deep-pile carpets, electric everything and plenty of chrome highlights.
Power came from a 140bhp 5.2-litre V8 mated to Chrysler’s trusty Torqueflite three-speed automatic transmission. At $14,000 in 1984, it was expensive by US standards but customers loved the opulent interiors and it far outsold its more basic Dodge Diplomat and Plymouth Gran Fury siblings.
This particular Fifth Avenue comes in white with a fabulously decadent red leather interior. It was imported to the UK by an American serviceman in August 1990 and had just one further keeper before before entering the Stondon Museum Collection in 2005.
Appearing to be in largely good condition throughout, it comes with various documents relating to its time in America including the original warranty from when it was new (sadly now expired!), importation documents from HM Customs showing that duties have been paid plus a modern V5C. Although it is in running order, it has not been used on the road for several years and will doubtless benefit from some precautionary recommissioning before being pressed back into use.
