Few cars have been so well-received as the MGB. Launched in 1962, it went on to become the world’s best-selling sports car during its 18-year production life and its popularity remains undimmed to this day.

The closed GT version did not appear until 1965 and, if anything, it drove even better than the Roadster thanks to a more rigid structure. With plenty of power on top from the lusty 1.8-litre engine, it also had fine road manners tanks to a slick 4-speed box with optional overdrive, precise rack-and-pinion steering, idependent front suspension and effective disc brakes. In 1967 it was upgraded to MkII spec with various detail improvements including an all-synchro box.

This 1969 GT has undergone an extensive programme of updating and renovation for the purpose of minor competition and fast road use in the UK and Europe. Finished in British Racing Green, the interior has been retrimmed in black and has comfortable period leather reclining seats and a Motolita steering wheel.

Rally equipment includes a Brantz 2 trip meter and a rally timer with remote, map light, rear roll cage, ‘Sabelt’ seat harnesses, a fire extinguisher and a cut off switch. Lighting is improved through 7" Britax spots and the car has a stainless steel twin exhaust system. Roadholding is improved through Spax shockers front and back and a general lowering of the suspension and the brakes have also been upgraded. A powerful engine operates through a 4-speed gearbox with electronic overdrive on 3rd and 4th.

In the current ownership since 2011, the car has been enjoyably used but has only entered and completed one historic rally through this period and now seeks a new owner for some inexpensive but rapid motoring. Taxed and tested until July 2015, it is being offered here at no reserve. The icing on the cake is an appealing THO 500H number plate.
