Description Jaguar 3.8 Litre Mk2 Saloon

History

1960 JAGUAR 3.8 Litre Mk 2 Saloon Registration No: ACC 646A Chassis No: Engine No: Estimate: Jaguar?s magnificent Mark 2 saloon was introduced in October 1959 and immediately set new standards for performance and luxury for medium sized saloons. Very few cars, even exotic foreign machinery could match the Mark 2 for performance and handling, especially at the bargain prices being charge by Brown?s Lane. The 3.8 litre engine gave really exceptional performance, and the package was completed with all round servo-assisted disc brakes and an overdrive gearbox as in this car, a top of the range model from 1960. ACC 646A was first registered on 3rd November 1960 and is offered as a project requiring finishing, but with all major works completed. Restoration to a very high standard has nearly been completed, and the car is now finished in Moss green, trimmed with green hide to match. The interior has a new headlining and the dash and door fillets are highly polished walnut. An alloy sports steering wheel with wood rim is a splendid period addition. The rolling chassis has new splined hubs with chrome knock-off wheels and spinners, with white banded tyres. Sports wheel arches as fitted to the celebrated ?Coombes? cars complete the ensemble. The chrome items such as grille, bumpers, window trim etc. are all re-plated, leaving only a few small items to be found and fitted. Perhaps the best feature of the car is the magnificent and highly finished 3.8 litre engine, complete with ancillaries and overdrive gearbox. This has been totally reconditioned to new condition by the celebrated Jaguar specialists Forward Engineering. Work required to complete the restoration will include fitting the engine and gearbox, and supplying and fitting an exhaust system. The brake discs are new, but callipers are still required to complete the system. Finally the rear screen remains to be fitted. Here is an unusual chance to acquire at a sensible reserve what will easily and economically become a really first class example of this highly sought after sporting saloon. The work completed so far is exceptional and the rolling chassis has had all major expenditure carried out. All the very ?best bits? are present, and the car has many of the sporting modifications applied to Jaguars at this time by Messrs Coombes of Guildford amongst others.
