The evergreen MGB was popular for a reason. Practical, good looking and easy to own, buyers queued up from its launch in 1962 right up until the last of the 500 Limited Edition LEs left the factory in 1980. By this time, a staggering 523,000 had been sold.
The original Roadster was supplemented by a Pininfarina styled GT in 1965. By nipping a bit here, and tucking a bit there, they managed to increase the height of the windscreen sufficiently to give enough headroom inside, without compromising the elegant lines inherited from the Roadster.
The 95bhp 1,798cc B-Series engine provided 100mph+ and while the traditional leaf sprung rear suspension wasn’t exactly state of the art, it did provide very predictable handling and a reasonable ride.
With over 21,000 still registered on the roads of Britain today, it’s not surprising that there are numerous specialists on hand supplying cheap and plentiful spare parts as well as a serious range of performance enhancing upgrades. You can even get brand new bodyshells!
This 1972 BGT comes with a large file of bills and invoices. MG Mecca in Norwich carried out a suspension overhaul around 14,000 miles ago and it has just flown through its MOT with the addition of two new front brake calipers and pads.
There are nine old MOTs on file, its current ticket expiring in February 2016, the vendor reporting that it goes well and is great fun to drive.
