Yamaha introduced their XS650 in 1968 as their mid-size contender and it remained in production until the last bikes left the line in 1983.
The XS650's parallel-twin was used to great effect in American Dirt Track Racing by national champion Kenny Roberts and when ‘Cycle World’ tested the XS650 in March 1979, it ran the standing-start quarter mile in 13.86 seconds with a terminal speed of 96.05 mph and could average 62mpg on a run.
This 1970 tax exempt XS650 is a standard model in original and unmodified condition. It appears to have received some paint refurbishment to the tank and sundry bits of bodywork, but this has been carried out some time ago and to a good standard. The odometer reads 34,265 miles and by the look of the bike this could well be correct. It comes with five old MOT certificates and is due to have a fresh ticket by the time of the sale.
