Henry Bamford started his successful engineering business in 1871 in Uttoxeter, rapidly expanding to become the Britain’s leading supplier of agricultural implements.

Within just ten years, the firm was offering a sales catalogue running to 40 pages, stuffed full of essential labour saving machinery and harvesting equipment. As the agricultural sector slowly moved away from horse-power, they were on hand to supply their range of stationary engines which ran from small portable units to much larger permanently fixed machines.

According to the Bamford factory records, this splendid twin-flywheel 5/6hp model was sold on 16th March 1927 to ‘Bellow’ of Leominster. It was ordered with a Wiko EK magneto and an optional trolley and was one of their more expensive models.

Requiring restoration, it appears largely complete and will make a most impressive display when completed. For some, there is nothing more relaxing than listening to a stationary engine chuffing away in the background, giving passers-by the pleasure of watching an open-crank engine operate like a well-oiled machine.
