Using what was basically a DKW-designed wheel-mounted engine, Cyclemaster (a literal translation from the German 'RadMeister') was a UK company owned by EMI who set about building compact engines to power push-bikes during the 1950s.
Popular bolt-ons to a standard bicycle, the engines, despite their low centre of gravity, made the bikes rather alarming to ride due to the extra weight, rather floppy frames and dubious brakes of their host machine, but were popular nevertheless. EMI even published a monthly title called ‘The Magic Wheel’, copies of which can be read online on the endlessly fascinating Cyclemaster Museum website.
This 32cc Cyclemaster engine was fitted to a Raleigh frame by the vendor’s father back in 1954. First registered by the Nottingham licencing authority as RRR 132, a plate it wears to this day, ownership passed to his daughter who has kept it ever since. Complete with buff logbook and old style V5, it is due to have a fresh MOT by the time of sale which will make the registration number readily transferable should its new owner wish to do so. In running condition, it is surprising just how exciting 32cc can be!
AMENDMENT: It is not possible to transfer the registration number online, the vehicle needs inspection.
