The Ducati Darmah made its first public appearance at the Bologna show in 1976. Named after a Tiger in a popular Italian children’s book, it was the work of Leo Tartarini and was (and probably still is!) the coolest bike on the road by a wide margin.
The engine was a derivation of the 860 GTS unit, upgraded with desmodromic valves and fitted in a beautifully balanced double cradle frame. Top quality forks, shocks and wheels were specified, along with three massive 280mm discs and Brembo calipers.
This prime 1979 example comes from a private collection where it has seen little use over the last few years. The recorded mileage of 29,616 is confirmed as genuine, the bike having covered just 297 of these over the last 10 years.
Regularly fired-up and just serviced with a new battery, fresh oil, sump filter and cartridge, it is a genuine UK-supplied machine (one of just 150), remains nicely unmolested and is reputed to sound and go as it should although it is currently not MOTd. The document file includes a bill of sale, sundry invoices, Ducati magazines and three manuals, and the bike retains two sets of keys and has been fitted with a chain oiler.
